Weird heading, I know but the thing was that in early December I got invited to the exclusive Jimmy Choo 2016 Cruise collection Event which took place at the stunningly beautiful Jumeriah Zabeel Saray Hotel out on the Palm.
It was quite an intimate gathering, and confusingly enough to me (who see SS16 as spring/summer) the collection was all about snow, moon-boots and limited edition skis!
By trying to adapt to the concept, I decided to go for a smokey blue-grey makeup with stormy undertones and frost bitten cheeks…and so it happened: my New Year’s Eve Makeup was born!
Dressed in black with black Jimmy Choo heels and an additional black (faux)fur I went all in and gave myself a super-full-on eye makeup. It has taken me a while to get used to the idea of blue on my eyes. It can be very much Ab Fab if you know what I mean! But the Chanel quad Les 4 Ombres #224 Tissé Riviera is just perfection!
I started out with the grey as base all over the mobile eyelid and then used the pitch black together with an eyebrow brush to create a rather thick, winged eyeliner and under-eye smokey line. In order to smooth over the harsh lines and make a transition, I layered the dove-grey on the centre of the lid and to smoke the lower lash line out. Finally, I used the cold pink to blend out any seams at the crease and up. Nice eyebrows and loads of mascara were added to complete the eye-look!
Not to forget to mention: December is all time high for luxurious candles and Voluspa always makes such amazing ones. This particular one, Branche Vermeil added silver cypress, cedar and pine needle all over the room while I was getting ready. Scent is such an important part of creating that whole luxurious feeling and I’m very happy that I have access to some the best candles here in Dubai. I hoard and burn. Like the typical Beauty Editor I am!
The stormy grey theme continued down on my nails with Essie #847 Cashmere Bathrobe but for the rest of my face I kept the makeup light and nude by applying Bourjois Rouge Edition #04 lipstick (actually a favourite of mine as it is my lips but better-coloured).
For cheeks I finished it of with some classic NARS Orgasm. You can never go wrong with that! To do some discrete, and matte highlight I used MAC eyeshadow in blanc type; a little trick that suits my skintone so well.
I think a lot of my Scandinavian side was very pleased with the whole event, as I could mingle with nice people, look at fur-coated heels and sip on my oh so lovely mulled wine. I felt right at place and thought the whole setup suited my particular mood!
Sometimes, the makeup just feels perfect and appropriate for the evening and when I was sitting in the town car back home, I realised that this will be my choice for NYE! I dare you to play with your smokey eyes, add some colour to it like blue, green or fuchsia. It’s fun and festive and with bare nude lips easy to eat end drink your way through a nice dinner.
