Julie Verhoeven for Marc Jacobs

I continue to be fascinated with the SS17 scene and all bright, vivid colours. It appeals to my senses and feels much more wearable than simple pastels. This year, we actually get a mix of them both to play with and it makes me happy.

For the Marc Jacobs Spring 2017 Fashion Show the brand surprised us all with a whimsical and bright theme in collaboration with British illustrator and designer Julie Verhoeven. Her characteristic cartoon imagery were seen in patchwork details on the runway and now Marc Jacobs Beauty are following up with a limited edition capsule collection featuring makeup bags designed by Julie Verhoeven.

There are three different “kit” available in the collection and this one is my favourite. The ENAMORED is nothing but a super limited edition version of the brand’s iconic high-shine nail laquer but this pretty one in the shade #PEARL JAM was exclusively created for and worn at the MJ Spring 2017 runway!

Where we previously could see a huge trend in everything from nail polishes to lipsticks being matte shades, apparently Marc Jacobs have decided to take the high-glossy road instead, much to my personal delight!

The makeup bags are true collector’s items and will most definitely sell out. Julie Verhoeven is an icon with her illustrations and designs, known for a number of collaborations with prominent brands such as Louis Vuitton and Mulberry.

The ENAMORED WITH A TWIST features three of the brand’s high shine Lip Gloss Lacquers  in the shades #French ticker, #Pink steam and #Want me?. Although I’m not a fan of lip glosses I would love to have the kit for the pouch!

The kit I suspect will be sold out in a heart beat is the VELVET REALITY. Not only is the pouch a wonderful work of art but it also contains three products to create the SS17 runway look: a Velvet noir mascara, the most beautiful highlighter in #TH(INK) and one of the fabulous Marc Jacobs Gel eyeliners in the vivid blue shade #On the verge.

My first encounter with the illustrator was back in 2010 when she designed a collection of linen, pillow cases and a bag for H&M Home. I loved the pillow case, it felt new and fresh back then and even though we now see a lot of illustrators collaborating with fashion houses (Megan Hess being a top name) I still find the style fun and interesting. Julie Verhoeven is well known and respected for her work, her exhibitions are always busy and in 2008 prominent Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) commissioned over a hundred of her illustrations for their permanent collection! ♥

    1. Wonderful Janine! IKR!!! I love it when art, fashion and beauty come together so beautifully. That’s when I get a kick out of trying to understand this industry. I also love Julie Verhoeven a lot and hope to see more collaborations with her in the future! xoxo, M
